Although only four of the Friends are actually fishermen, the group have been friends since school and have been performing together in the pubs - and in the harbour - of Port Isaac for 18 years.
Their soaring harmonies and big choruses had long been a fixture in North Cornwall when they were discovered by Radio 2鈥檚 own Johnnie Walker. They later signed to a major record label and went on to perform at Glastonbury, and a feature film inspired by their story is currently in production.
The Fisherman's Friends' performance at the 2011 Folk Awards, when they won the Good Tradition Award, was a highlight of that year's event.
The 2014 Folk Awards will be one of their first live appearances since the tragic accidental deaths of dear friend and bandmate Trevor Grills, and tour promoter Paul McMullen, in February 2013. Their second album One And All was dedicated to Trevor鈥檚 memory and his absence will be felt at this year's event.
