Romeo and Juliet
The tragic tale of star-crossed lovers whose families keep them apart.
The Capulets and Montagues are the two chief families in Verona, but a long running feud has divided the families for years. Romeo, a Montague, sneaks into a gala ball hosted by the Capulets to see his crush, Rosaline. But when he arrives, it is Juliet he falls in love with.
After stating his love to Juliet in the famous 'balcony' scene, Romeo makes plans to get married. Friar Laurence agrees to perform the ceremony in the hope it may reunite the feuding families.
The following day Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, challenges Romeo to a fight after hearing he attended the ball. Romeo, knowing he is now related to Tybalt, refuses to fight but his short tempered friend takes on the challenge, and is killed. Reacting to his friend's death, Romeo strikes out and kills Tybalt and is forced to leave Verona, though he hopes once his marriage to Juliet becomes public he will be able to return.
Devastated that her husband is forced to run away, Juliet discovers her father has arranged for her to be married to a relative of the prince in just two days. She seeks advice from Friar Laurence who offers her a potion which will make her appear dead for 48 hours. Juliet accepts the potion and the Friar sends word to Romeo.
In the morning Juliet's apparently lifeless body is discovered. The Friar's messenger was unable to reach Romeo, who now believes Juliet is dead. Romeo buys a vial of poison as he rushes back to see her one last time before taking his own life.
As Romeo dies beside her, Juliet awakens. Upset at Romeo's death Juliet stabs herself with his dagger, and ends her own life. The final scene shows the Capulets and Montagues brought back together by the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
