Characters & Actors

Left to right: Rupert Evans as Zander, Zoe Tapper as Hermia, Michelle Bonnard as Helena, William Ash as James Demetrius

The young lovers

Zander (Rupert Evans)

Young Zander comes from a rich family, but he's more interested in finding himself, and his true love, than whooping it up in high style. His romantic ways have swept Hermia off her feet - are they a match made in heaven?

James (William Ash)

Dependable but dull James has been Hermia's sweetheart for years, and now he's meant to be getting engaged to her. But he's never actually said that he loves her. Maybe it's not Hermia he should be getting engaged to?

William Ash

Young Mancunian William Ash has been seen in numerous TV roles, including Children's Ward, Soldier Soldier, in which he played Jack Stubbs, Clocking Off as Nick Anderson and Burn It as Jon Moore. He also appeared in ITV period crime drama Jericho playing the character Johnny Swan.

His theatre work includes parts in Port at the Royal Exchange and The Sugar Syndrome at The Upstairs Royal Court Theatre.

Hermia (Zoe Tapper)

Hermia's always tried to please her dad, but she's not going to marry a man she doesn't love even for him. Swept off her feet by romantic Zander, she's feels she can't tell her parents - but will a bit of fairy magic bring this family back together.

Zoe Tapper

Amongst the TV roles Zoe has performed are the roles of Jenny Maple in Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky Jane in biographical series Pepys. She's also appeared in Sky One's school-set supernatural series Hex as Gemma, and has guest starred in Cutting It and Jericho.

On the big screen she's played sexy orange-seller Nell Gwyn in Shakespeare-themed rom-com Stage Beauty, and plays Diana Shaw in These Foolish Things.

Helena (Michelle Bonnard)

Hermia's sensible friend Helena is the sort of girl who's always stood outside the telephone box where her friend's kissing a new boy. She'd never do anything to hurt her childhood friend - but when Hermia rejects James, perhaps there's a chance for her to finally get what she really wants.

Michelle Bonnard

Michelle's TV roles have included appearances in Spooks, Casualty, Doctors and EastEnders.

She's also done a fair amount of theatre, including lots of Shakespeare - she's played Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, Cordelia in King Lear, Ophelia in Hamlet, and a witch in Macbeth.
