About this film
This was an animation exercise for Year Seven. I chose A Midsummer Night's Dream because they were familiar with the play and because the fantasy element made it suitable for animation. Pupils were able to represent characters who were not human with more freedom than they would in live action.
The fragment begins when the artisans are planning their play. Puck comes in and turns Bottom's head into an ass's head, thus frightening all his friends, who run away. Bottom walks on past Titania's bed. She also is under a spell of Puck's, and affected by this, falls in love with Bottom and tries to prevent him from leaving. Pupils helped plan and storyboard the plot, made all the characters, props and backgrounds, animated all the action and helped with the editing. An ex-teacher kindly donated the music.
