Georgina Channing has earned herself the nickname 鈥業ce Maiden鈥� from her daughter, Charlie, and ex-husband, John Deed. She's come across as ambitious and career-orientated, while lacking maternal instinct. But she does have a softer side.
"George is much more vulnerable than the viewers think she is," actress Caroline Langrishe explains. "George is known as a patriarchal, power crazed woman 鈥� but only by John and Charlie when they鈥檙e together. When she鈥檚 alone with Charlie it鈥檚 a different story 鈥� the viewers will see that she just wants what鈥檚 best for her daughter."
She and John Deed have a stormy relationship. "They still fancy each other really, which is odd considering they are divorced." This caused a few sparks when she introduced her new lover, Secretary of State, Neil Haughton. "I think he was jealous," says Caroline. "They are always critical of each other鈥檚 relationships 鈥� he doesn鈥檛 like her being with Neil; and she is always extremely sarcastic about his relationship with Jo Mills. They couldn鈥檛 live together again, though. They're too similar. He tries it on occasionally and he gets a kick out of that in a power kind of way."
Caroline's delighted to be in the series. "It's a well written, well cast, proper grown-up drama. I like the fact that there鈥檚 a hard core of regular characters. It鈥檚 like going back to a new term at school!"
