These really are happy days for four South Devon lads who could be on the verge of something big. The Days are a four-piece group - brothers Dan and Luke Simpkins, and friends Tim Ayers and Harry Meads, who all went to Ivybridge Community College. They've been signed by Atlantic Records, and their debut album is set for release in 2008. They've just headlined their first UK tour and have also toured with The Fray and Rooney. "It's been a whirlwind," said Dan, 23. "We were signed, and then we've been writing, developing and recording songs, and then we started touring." The Days evolved after Dan went to university in London. Luke and Harry, both 21, also moved to London, and the band started life as a three-piece. The lads get back to Devon as often as possible Dan explained: "We decided to make the band a full-time career. We played gigs and rehearsed really hard and it all built up from there. "So there was already a buzz about us before we went onto the myspace website." With Luke on vocals, piano and guitar, Dan on bass and vocals, and Harry on drums, the jigsaw was completed when guitarist Tim, 20, also moved to London. The band met with five major record companies, did a showcase, and were signed up by Atlantic. Luke said: "We're all having good fun. It's what we always wanted to do, and it's great having record company backing." Luke has been busy writing the songs, which the rest of the group then help to develop. They hope to release a single from the forthcoming album in the New Year, with the CD being released in the Spring. The lads have spent some time in Hollywood, where they were filmed to appear in episodes of the internet TV series, Kate Modern - so all in all, it's been a hectic year! But they still find time to get back home - their slogan is: Big up the Devon Massive. Dan said: "We're based in Ivybridge and Modbury and we've got a practice space on Dartmoor. It's important for us to be in Devon." The Days appeared on James Watts' show on 成人快手 Radio Devon over the 2007 festive period - listen to the interview and their live, acoustic performance of Evil Girls, using the links on this page. And you can listen to some of their songs on their myspace website, which is also linked from this page. last updated: 27/01/2009 at 15:12 You are in: Devon > Events > 成人快手 Devon Introducing > Profiles > Happy Days |
