Kev meets The People's String Foundation

The Local Sounds of Summer

Join me on 成人快手 Radio Devon this August Bank Holiday Monday at 12 midday for a musical trip around the county as I introduce you to three of Devon's unsigned local acts.

This Bank Holiday Monday on 成人快手 Radio Devon you're invited to join me, Kev Hutchings, for "Devon Demos".

Usually I'm only to be found, after dark, on John Govier's Late Night Radio Show - but听 now the "powers that be" have agreed to let me out during daylight hours too.

We'll leave the studios behind and head off on a sun-kissed musical journey around the county, to meet three unsigned acts at the some of the most beautiful locations Devon has to offer.

Beer Garden Antics

Tune in to hear how we ended up taking over the beer garden at The White Hart Inn in the peaceful village of Bridestowe to record Okehampton based band, The People's String Foundation, .

Cheers! Music in the beer garden

Our original plans fell flat so we decided to just knock on the door of the local pub and hope for the best!

Ben and the boys (after polishing off one or two pints of the local liquid offerings kindly provided by the unsuspecting, but very accommodating, bar staff) told me all about the group and played a fantastic summertime medley along with a version of one of their own jazz enthused hits.

Sitting under the shade of a tree, with a babbling stream meandering past us, it really was a lovely way to spend an hour or so.

Sun, Sea, Sand and Serenades

Sunbathers on the beach at Saunton Sands in North Devon were just as surprised when they were treated to a summertime serenade by Braunton based singer songwriter Amy Newton.

Life's a beach for Amy and Kev

Surrounded by wind-breaks and sitting on deckchairs borrowed from Amy's friend Jools, we chatted about her life and music, before she entertained the "beach-bums" with her rendition of the Louis Armstrong favourite, A Wonderful World.

Amy also performed a song off her first studio album.

Throwaway Comments

Then it was down the North Devon Link Road to Exeter. And providing the soundtrack to an afternoon relaxing by the canal, was singer songwriter Tom Lillywhite.

Tom told me how he manages to balance life as a student with the demands of being a 21st century pop star in the making.

And just when we thought the interview was over, he dropped into the conversation - just in passing like it wasn't at all important, that his uncle produced what some may say is one of the best albums in the world, U2's Joshua Tree - oh yes and "did I mention he was married to Kirsty McColl too?"

"I didn't think it was important," laughed Tom.
