This year, it features 20 bands and 12 hours of music...and it's free. Music fans will be descending on Budleigh Salterton in August, for the biggest ever Budstock Festival. The festival - first staged in 1990 - features 20 bands on two stages on Budleigh Salterton seafront, with Otter Head providing the stunning backdrop. It's taking place on Saturday 4 August from 12 noon until midnight - and it's free. Audible Porno In 1997, Teignmouth indie rockers Muse played at the festival, and they are now one of the biggest bands in the country. Many of the bands and singers on show this year are from Devon, including Rebecca Worthley, Nick Saunders, Cassette Generation and Ian Briggs - one of the world's greatest living blues harp players. Others are Dead Frequency, Stalking Tyler, Thousand Natural Shocks, Audible Porno, Count to Fire, and The Akibas. They are joined by acts from London, Brighton, Glasgow and Gloucester. The event's main organiser Jolyon Holroyd said: "This is the most ambitious and exciting Budstock we've ever staged. Nick Saunders "The music will swap between the Main Stage and the Tobs Stage throughout the afternoon and well into the night, providing over 12 hours of fantastic live music, absolutely free. "Budstock is special because everyone gives their time and energy so freely. "Some of the bands are travelling hundreds of miles to play for no fee, so the least we can do is give them an enthusiastic crowd to play to." The first Budstock was held in 1990, and there have been 12 events since then. They were organised by Jolyon and his brother Toby (Tobs) and friends until 1996, when Toby was killed in a road accident in Northern Spain. Jolyon and his friends have continued to put on the events when funds and commitments allow - motivated by the memory of Toby, who the second stage is named after at this year's event. last updated: 26/06/07 You are in: Devon > Entertainment > Entertainment news and features > Budstock 2007 |
