BlastYou are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Blast > Reflective, intense, dark and powerful Barricades Rise Reflective, intense, dark and powerfulBy Sarah Bygrave, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Blast music reporter ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Coventry & Warwickshire's Sarah Bygrave listens to the new album from Barricades Rise. You and Your Adored is an album with many stories woven into it and the title clearly has a deceptive meaning hidden to it. Each track tells of the turmoil caused by hurt in both a cognitive and physical sense. It can become a bit repetitive, but if you take the time to listen to each track and unearth the meaning behind the descriptive lyrics, it is a very enjoyable album with a few absolute gems. Urge you to press repeatThe album has a different aspect of pain in it, so it is not an album to listen to from beginning to end if you are in a fabulous mood as it might dampen your spirits. However, it is a very reflective piece of work and one that can be enjoyed by musical fans of a variety of different genres. You and Your Adored The songs Aftermath and This Creation stand out as the two triumphs on the album and create a strong beginning to the album. Both have very catchy lyrics and addictive melodies which urge you to press the repeat button whilst listening. Barricades Rise close their debut album with Wake which speaks of the end of a journey. The lyrics - "I’ll take them all because I need more than you’’ - outline that the conflict is over and it is time to move on. This track closes the album well and leaves you feeling satisfied and content. Soundtrack for reflectionAs an acoustic rock album it includes flashes of country, indie and blues, which differentiates it from other acoustic albums. It is the perfect soundtrack for reflection and fruition of ones personal state, and as it keeps it’s powerful meaning throughout the album, your reaction to each track develops as each meaning is uncovered and conveyed. Jonathan has a very strong, mysterious and raspy voice, which is supported by Michael’s accomplished guitar playing and, on some tracks, Michael’s vocals. With both members performing vocals on the tracks, it helps to create some diversity within the album and some very catchy lyrics. The riffs throughout the tracks can certainly hold their own, and in some cases out-shine the lyrics.
