Introducing Carly Ryder

At the Liberal Academy in Bedworth Carly Ryder took to the stage, just her and her guitar.

Performing after two powerful rock bands, some would think that an 18-year-old solo acoustic artist would be a bit lost, or even out of place. This certainly wasn’t the case when it came to Carly. With just her guitar to accompany her dainty vocals she performed five tracks in total to a very consistent standard and to rapturous applause.

Even though the audience was small Carly certainly got everybody’s attention. Opening with So Twisted she demonstrated her frank song lyrics accompanied by very established guitar playing. In fact all of the songs have very personal lyrics and act as a window into Carly’s teenage life.

Her songs You Couldn’t Get Away and My Insides tell alternative love stories, and Carly proclaims she ‘isn’t messed up’, she just finds different situations interesting and loves to write songs about them.

Each of her tracks has a hint of teenage angst but also have romantic ideas behind them.

But in true Carly Ryder style she takes these ideas and twists them, just enough to make you question what you just heard.

She has an incredible way of voicing dark ideas at such a relaxed pace with a refreshing sense of delicacy.

As a performer Carly is fascinating to watch. She picks out one audience member and holds eye contact with them for the duration of a song, just to see their reaction. As one of Coventry’s emerging talents Carly will have no problems launching herself into an extensive and lengthy career.

She already has record company interest and has pencilled more than five songs in a year, not bad for a drummer turned singer-songwriter.
