Take That Ultimate Tour

Take That Live

Coventry is Midlands' new music capital

The Ricoh Arena is fast becoming one of the hottest music venues in the country. Find out who's coming to town next summer...

With Take That announcing a tour date at the stadium next summer hot on the back of Oasis, Coventry’s music fans are finally getting the chance to see the biggest bands on home turf.

Take That Present: The Circus Live has already broken all box office records, beating Michael Jackson’s 1987 Bad Tour as the fastest selling tour in UK music history.

But back in the 80s Jackson fans in Coventry would have had to travel to Milton Keynes to see the star.

Oasis have sold 50 million records

Now the Ricoh Arena means the big acts aren’t just sailing up the M40 in their tour buses, Coventry’s become the musical destination of the Midlands.

And our new found place on the stadium-tour map won’t be likely to change if ticket sales continue at their recent pace.

In October, die-hard Oasis fans camped outside the stadium overnight to make sure they were first in line for tickets.

And excitement is growing among Take That fans, who will be planning their summer holidays around the boys' must see gig in June.

Their last album Beautiful World sold more than two and a half million copies in the UK, making it more successful than any of their pre-comeback albums.

Clash of the Big Bands

But as two of Britain’s best loved bands hit Coventry next summer, let’s just hope they don’t bump into each other…

Gary Barlow from Take That

Gary Barlow from Take That

They’ve had a bit of a love hate relationship over the years, with Liam Gallagher spectacularly falling out with former Take That member Robbie Williams.

But Gary Barlow insists Liam is a mate, "I know we’ve got different styles of music and all that but he’s a nice guy."

Well nice guy or not, summer 2009 at the Ricoh is definitely the ultimate clash of bad boy rock and squeaky clean boy band pop. Now, does anybody have tickets to both gigs?

Sky Blues Oasis

Two music fans who bought tickets to see Oasis in the Ricoh are Sky Blues players Leon Best and Danny Fox. ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Coventry & Warwickshire's Sarah Cummins went to speak to them about music... not football... for a change! You can listen to that interview here...

Take That

Take that will be playing at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Monday, 8 June, Tuesday, 9 June and Wednesday, 10 June 2009.

They were originally due to play on just Tuesday, 9 June, but two extra dates were added after tickets were selling out in a matter of minutes.

The stadium is a great venue for large concerts but can only be used outside the football season. The Jaguar hall is an ideal medium sized venue and it would be good to see this used more for concerts, I've seen The Enemy & Scouting for Girls there and have tickets for the Specials. There are so many good bands around at the moment, but we have to go to Birmingham Academy, Wolverhampton Civic and venues like that to see them. Come on Ricoh tout for the business with these promoters!
