Name:Rala Kawas Age:21 Born and Bred:I come from the little island of Cyprus right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, where I grew up until the age of 18, when I came over to England to begin my studies and career. Occupation:I have just graduated from Loughborough University with a 2:1 in a degree of Politics with minors in Media and French. I am also, let’s not forget, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Coventry & Warwickshire’s new Blast Arts Reporter 2008. I’ll be reporting on a whole range of arty issues, talents and events throughout the summer. A ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Production Room Aspirations:In the future I hope to work somewhere in the media and mostly, I aspire to work for the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ. What area of the media I’d like to pursue is yet to be decided, but hopefully this placement will help me clarify the situation! You can’t beat talking to lots of different people about lots of different things, and reporting it in some form, as a career path! Best Moment:Securing this placement with the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ for the summer was one of my best moments yet. I was in a very busy train station toilet when I got the call and everyone in there (though they didn’t quite know why) shared in the moment with me! Interesting Fact:I speak four languages fluently: English, Arabic, French and Greek (nearly fluently.) Likes:Where do I begin! I love the arts in all its many forms, from music and dance to fine arts and more unconventional forms. I also play the piano and the flute. Jezza English comedy, in programmes such as Peep Show and Top Gear never fail to make me happy. A new-found interest has taken the form of watching Formula 1 Grand Prix Racing, and keeping updated with the latest on the subject. Though I don’t always understand the technical stuff, I try to! Finally, exercising, especially weight training is something I particularly enjoy doing as I believe it keeps me sane! Dislikes:Rudeness, boisterousness and complete scatiness. More About Me:Many people call me ‘anal,’ because everything in my room is neatly tidied away and has a place. But I would call it being organised. I can be a perfectionist about certain things but I’m not uptight and would class myself as generally laid-back and bubbly. I’m active and I like to keep busy, be it through relaxing activities, like watching telly or through working. I believe that if you work your hardest, you can play your hardest. The Blast Scheme combines two of my biggest interests: writing and the arts. This placement offers me an exciting opportunity to work with one of the world’s best media organisations and I intend to maximise that opportunity and get the most I can out of it, both for myself and for you! Contact Me:Please do email me if there is anything to do with the arts that you would like me to cover during my time here, be it an event that not many people know about or a hidden talent!
