Specials guitarist Lynval Golding, recently returned to Coventry, and I was proud to be on hand to show the ska-hero the star on the Coventry Walk of Fame dedicated to his former band The Specials. Lynval, now a resident of Seattle USA, was unable to attend the 16 May unveiling ceremony at Priory Place. On the day, former band members Roddy Byers and Horace Panter collected the award on behalf of the other members. Lynval and The Specials' star He seemed well impressed with the star judging by the way he knelt down at the plaque. When asked how he felt about this award, Lynval said: "I would like to dedicate it to my father who is now at rest in Holbrook鈥檚 Cemetery, I'm sure he would be very proud of what his son has achieved." The Specials were one of ten recipients on Coventry Walk of Fame project; others included former Specials manager Pete Waterman, Sir Henry Parkes and Lady Godiva. On 16 June, the Specials were inducted into the exclusive Mojo Hall of Fame. They join other music luminary's like The Doors, Madness and Sir Elton John. The word on the Street is they are planning a reunion to tie in with their 30th anniversary next year. last updated: 14/07/2008 at 15:23 You are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Entertainment > Music > Features > A special moment for Lynval |
