Boys in the frame

With the deadline to The Big Picture record breaking attempt nearing Coventry Boys Club Manager Lisa Campbell submitted some photos of the fun that goes on there. We find out the story behind the pictures.

Lisa is supported by a small army of volunteers who are responsible for the day- to- day running of the club, she says

"It's open every night of the week for a whole variety of activities, games like pool or even a space for bands to practice. We also run activities away from the club, like canoeing."

"Despite what the name would suggest the Coventry Boys' Club is not a single sex organisation, and increasingly girls join us too. It was founded back in the 1930s when the Coventry branch of Toc H started the Red Lane Boys' Club at the Red Lane School."

"The club has been destroyed by fire on two separate occasions, once in the Blitz on Coventry in 1940 and more recently by an arson attack in 1990. Each time the club has risen from the ashes and each time we think it's become better than before!"

Eye on the ball

Phil Parkin, 17 from Kenilworth, has been going to the club for around two years. Phil plays pool for the England Junior Pool Team, and enjoys passing on his skills

Planning the next move

"My favourite thing about the club is coaching young kids. I really enjoy showing them how to play pool and snooker and organising pool events through the Club."

"I teach them new techniques and skills from the sport and hope they can follow in professional player鈥檚 footsteps. I'm am representing the country at the World Pool Championships in Blackpool during next week, and it's great to know that the gang from the club are behind me."

The Big Picture aims to make the biggest photo album the West Midlands has ever seen, and they need over 100,000 images if they're to create a world record-breaking photo montage.

There's not long left to join The Big Picture campaign and show what is important to you in Coventry and Warwickshire.

You have until midnight on June 30th 2008 to add your snaps.
