Navtej's Blast Diary

Hi, I'm Navtej - budding sports reporter, football fanatic and the latest addition to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Coventry & Warwickshire's sports team. I've been selected to work as a Blast sports reporter for my local area this summer.

Week nine

Monday: My last week at the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ began as busily as usual as last week’s diary was published in the morning and I had to get cracking on the match report from Saturday’s game between Leamington and Chesham United. The only goal came with 79 seconds on the clock for Leamington, and although there were some tight moments where Chesham were looking threatening, The Brakes deserved their victory in the end. I also found out that the feature with the skippers from Studley would not be able to go through as they couldn’t make it on Wednesday. The day ended by looking ahead to my London 2012 feature, as I organised an interview with Paralympic hopeful Sam Ingram, who I had interviewed for a separate piece earlier in the summer.

Kelly Sibley

Kelly Sibley; got her in the end

Tuesday: What a day! In the morning I listened back to the interview with David Moorcroft, and started the editing process by picking out some juicy sound-bites I could use in the final piece. I also conducted the interview with Sam Ingram, who was just as nice and laidback as the last time I spoke to him. After editing the audio for that in the afternoon I received an unexpected call from Kelly Sibley’s mother saying that her daughter was on her way to a match in France, but had a spare 20 minutes; so after hastily printing off my questions and setting up in the studio I was on the phone to the elusive table-tennis star. The interview was well worth the wait as Kelly spoke passionately about her dream of winning at London 2012 and what it would mean to her.

Wednesday: Alongside the radio feature, I was also working on a written piece for the web, which is what I worked on today. Firstly, Martin and I tackled the video footage from the UK School Games, sifting through to find some gems I could use to go with my written piece. Also, I started my written piece for the website for which I used my radio feature as a launch pad. The day was completed with some more work on the audio footage. All this effort for London 2012 – it better be good!

Thursday: So here we are – nine weeks later and what an amazing journey. I’ve had such an incredible experience here, working with some lovely people and learning tons of new things all the time. I can honestly say that I’ve looked forward to coming into work every day and have had the most wonderful, yet educational summer of my life so far. For the final day’s work it was all hands on deck as Martin and I banged our heads together to get my London 2012 piece sorted. We edited and chopped and changed and I also recorded my narration to go with the interviews. All in all, a good day’s work and the end of a great summer at ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Coventry & Warwickshire.
