If you were bothered by young people being noisy and vandalising your street, would you tell them to go away or encourage them to keep coming back? One couple in Coventry went for the second option, setting up a sports scheme in Foleshill to give youngsters something to do. ![]() Project founders Elaine & Stuart Parker Elaine and Stuart Parker were troubled by noise from young people and when a ball smashed their window, they asked the footballers why they played in the street instead of the park next-door. Discovering the park wasn't safe because of anti-social behaviour, the couple decided to do something about it. They went into partnership with the youth service, Coventry City Council and various funders and created The Edgwick Sports Project, offering floodlit facilities and coaching for regular sports events at three parks in the Foleshill area. After 10 years, it's now so successful they've won a number of sports awards and even been awarded MBEs. last updated: 06/06/2008 at 12:37 You are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Your Films > Sporting Foleshill successes |
