The mural at Poltair School

100 Years in Colour

The sinking of the Titanic, the development of the first electric light, the victory of the 1996 World Cup are just some of the key moments from the last 100 years which have been depicted in a new 'Centenary' mural at Poltair School in St Austell.

The 80ft mural which has taken two years to complete has been designed and painted by Poltair Art teacher Eileen Parsons and art students who all worked on the project after school.

成人快手 Radio Cornwall's James Churchfield caught up with Eileen Parsons and some of the students from Poltair school to find out all about it.

"The mural is based around the celebrations of the school's Centenary last year"听 explained Eileen Parsons. "We wanted to create something which celebrated the school's ethos and brighten up the school".

The mural is sited inside the school's main entrance and contains 10 4ft by 8ft panels each depicting a separate decade of the century.

"Each board was completed by one, two or a group of students who were asked to come up with subjetcs that reflected events from St Austell, Cornwall, Britain, Europe and the world, said Parsons.

"The result is a fascinating mix of historic events which show that our school is older that the Titanic, electric light bulbs, votes for women and the atomic age!".
