The site boasts buildings from different centuries and amazing views. Take a trip around this historical building. Pendennis Castle was one of the many built during the reign of Henry VIII. Its purpose was to protect the extensive waters known as the Carrick Roads and today it stands proud among other buildings on the site. The Governors dining room in Pendennis Castle The castle itself is like a fort. In the basement you can find the kitchen. Working your way up a winding staircase you can enjoy a display of replica guns and equipment which attempt to give a idea of what the gun-deck was like. The Governor of Pendennis was housed in the entrance block to the main castle, built during the third phase of construction around 1550. You can see what his dining room would have looked like and a portrait of one of the Governors. The top floor offers the sights and sounds of a war during the Tudor and Stuart period. Smoke rises throughout the room as you hear the sound of canons being fired towards the enemy out on the waters. Today the castle and its surrounding area acts as a great spot to re-live history. On the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June you can hear the boom of the noon-day gun being fired for the first time this year, when the annual Military Vehicle Trust presentation of 'Coast Defence in Action' takes place. A shelter to serve food for World War II The event aims to recreate aspects of army life during World War II at Pendennis Castle. A bugler will be on duty and wartime period costumed musicians 'Hautbois' are leading singalong sessions featuring favourite tunes from the era. It is one of many events that go on during the summer months at Pendennis Castle. For more details please contact the castle. Details are at the end of this article. The grounds boast several buildings all featuring exhibitions. These range from World War II ammunition to wartime cartoons. Wherever you look in the grounds of Pendennis Castle you are greeted with amazing views of Falmouth, the Carrick Roads, and out to sea.
