Jan, 56, from Port Issac, rode up to eight hours a day for a week in searing temperatures through Rajasthan with a fundraising group of 30 horse lovers from around the UK to help the Brooke reach suffering working horses, donkeys and mules in developing nations.

Like the other riders, Jan met the 拢3,000 sponsorship target enabling her to take part in the 鈥淏rooke Ride of a Lifetime.鈥�

The 120-mile route took Jan across desert and over volcanic outcrops. She also saw first hand the life-saving work of some of the Brooke鈥檚 India mobile veterinary teams in poor communities en route.

鈥淭he trek was really tough - most of us are sunburned and sore,鈥� says Jan. 鈥淏ut it was a fantastic experience. Seeing the difference Brooke vets are making to sick and injured working equine animals really brought home to us just why we were out there.鈥�

The money raised by Jan and the group will be used to support the Brooke鈥檚 programme of veterinary care and education in India, which includes competitions for children, animal care workshops in villages and free veterinary services.
