Political Map is Changing

Cornwall will return six MPs to the House of Commons for the first time at the next General Election - whenever it might come. After a long process of consultation and argument, the new political boundaries have been drawn.

Now the political activists are drawing up their battleplans while the pundits ponder the implications. Across the political universe, election fever is in full swing.听

The current County constituencies

At present Cornwall's election jigsaw has five pieces - all painted in Lib Dem yellow.听听 St Ives, Falmouth and Camborne, Truro and St Austell, north Cornwall south east Cornwall.听听At the next general Election The jigsaw will have six pieces.

The proposed County constituencies

The St Ives constituency loses the town of Hayle.听What used to be the Falmouth and Camborne seat loses Falmouth but gains Hayle.听 It'll will now be called the Camborne and Redruth constituency.

A new seat called Truro and Falmouth is created, excluding Mount Hawke on the north coast. The towns of St Austell and Newquay are linked together to form a new seat.

The constituencies of North Cornwall and South east Cornwall remain largely unchanged. So whatever the date of the general election - and what ever the result - the political map of Cornwall will definitely look very different the morning after.
