Falmouth Oyster Festival

Celebrating the start of the oyster season, the four-day annual event returns to Falmouth, featuring mouth-watering cookery demonstrations by local chefs and restaurants and a chance for visitors to sample the delights of the sea.

The annual festival has broad appeal and is highly recommended for all oyster, seafood and marine heritage enthusiasts.

Sample the oysters, seafood, wine and ale, as well as enjoying entertainment such as children’s shell painting, sea shanties, the town parade, live music and marquees packed with Cornish produce and crafts.

The festival opens with a cookery master-class with celebrity chef Clarissa Dickson Wright followed by a packed programme of cookery demonstrations by leading local chefs.

New this year is 'Falmouth's Own Ready, Steady, Cook' evening on Friday evening 19th October at 7.30pm in the festival marquee on Events Square with chefs Nick Hodges from Lusty Glaze Restaurant in Newquay and Arty Williams from The Cove Restaurant at Maenport, plus live music from The Shirts.

The food challenge will take the well-known format of a mystery bag of ingredients being transformed by each chef into culinary delights in front of an appreciative audience, who will then vote for the best chef using ‘red port’ and ‘green starboard’ voting cards – keeping with the maritime theme of the event.

Contestants will select their mystery ingredients from the Taste of The West food producers in the food hall at the festival, and will then peel, chop and generally assist the two chefs in their quest for the inaugural tile of ‘Falmouth’s Own Ready, Steady Cook’ Champion!

Also new for 2007 - visitors to the festival will be able to enjoy a highly entertaining evening with Tom Cunliffe, well known yachting journalist and broadcaster and Claudia Myatt, marine illustrator and author, supported by musical entertainment with fish supper and wine or Cornish ale.

The festival runs from Thursday 18 October through until Sunday 21st October 2007, opening at 10am each day.
