Complaint

The Scottish Gamekeepers Association complained an inaccurate and misleading impression was given that all Highland and Islands bird of prey killings were linked to land managed for game bird shooting. 聽The ECU considered whether the programme met the 成人快手鈥檚 standards for due accuracy.

Outcome

The programme featured the disappearance of a golden eagle whose satellite tracker had stopped working. 聽In the course of explaining what was known about the missing bird, the investigating officer claimed 100 per cent of all birds of prey killed in the Highland and Islands died on or near land managed for game bird shooting. 聽The ECU found the assertion was supported by recent Police evidence, with other data appearing to confirm a link between the gamebird shooting industry and breaches of the law protecting birds of prey in Scotland.聽 In the ECU鈥檚 view the available facts supported the general impression which viewers would have taken from the remarks, namely that the relevant authorities have been and continue to be concerned about the number of birds of prey which are killed or disappear in proximity to managed grouse moors.
