Summary of complaint
We received complaints from viewers who were unhappy Clive Myrie was reporting live on the LA fires, when there were correspondents already present.
Our response
The volume of work for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ News Online, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ News channel and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio News can often mean that coverage of a big and ongoing news story requires more than one reporter.ÌýIf there is international interest in the story, reportersÌýmay also be providing coverage for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ World News television and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ World Service radio.
The LA wildfires are an important story for audiences in the US, UK and around the world. Clive Myrie is in the US to front our inauguration coverage and was diverted to the fires to support the team on the ground who have been working tirelessly on this huge story, showing the devastating impact of the fires on people and the environment. His reporting as a news anchor has added to the brilliant work of the team and has not changed the prominence or excellence of Emma Vardy’s reporting – they have both been part of the coverage. This was, and still is, a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates.
While we don't generally discuss programme budgets due to commercial sensitivities, we're aware for the need to maintain value for money at all times with regards to the licence fee. We can assure you that all of our resources being used in our coverage of this story are being engaged efficiently.
