Angus and Jane were inspired by the boardwalks on nature reserves such as Slapton Ley in Devon, where plants force their way between the timbers of raised walkways, while underneath, wildlife flourishes undisturbed.

They wanted to create a multilayered, quiet space that actively encourages and celebrates the huge biodiversity that can be found in any small urban garden.

"This garden looks as if the owners have been away on holiday for three weeks, but what is still clearly visible is the tension between the contemporary lines of the design, and the planting, which is 'running riot' and threatening to take over."
