"I am often inspired not by a visit to someone else's garden, or a photo of an exotic and masterful creation in a far-flung corner, but by a material or texture, whether used in a shop interior or in clothing.

So it was for this garden. Coming across an article on how concrete might be formed from tensioned fabric led me to Edinburgh University, where the shapes and textures that they are experimenting with are beautiful and the possibilities for a garden structure almost infinite.

I created some organic forms that supported the rear walls, but they quickly developed into almost tree root shapes. It seemed a natural evolution to allow them to flow from the walls and along the ground. The form of the garden flows from these shapes – the division between walls and floor is blurred as the planting too continues vertically upwards."
