I had no idea I could help raise so much awareness, nevermind so much money, with my story! Now they'll be another Justice and Care Navigator who can help survivors like me.’
We have been blown away by the response to our ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Appeal featuring the story of James, a victim of modern slavery who we have had the privilege of supporting. Thanks to Radio 4 listeners, we were able to raise more than £131,500, including the match funding of one generous supporter - meaning more people like James can be helped.
We’re so thankful for all those who donated to the appeal and shared it with friends and family - as well as our friend, Simon Thomas, who presented it on our behalf. The funds will make an invaluable difference in supporting and growing our Victim Navigator Programme here in the UK.
Our specialist Navigators work alongside police teams to help victims of modern slavery and human trafficking walk free, rebuild their lives and secure justice.
They support survivors throughout their recovery - they build trust, ensure that they are safe, have access to counselling and health care, and that their basic needs for food and clothing are met. Our Navigators guide survivors through the legal process, empowering them to engage with the police to see their traffickers brought to justice, allowing them to begin a new chapter free from slavery.
We know it is James’s story that led so many to give. We are so grateful to him for bravely sharing his experience of exploitation, and raising awareness of ‘cuckooing’ - a hidden and growing crime within the UK.
On behalf of us all at Justice and Care, a sincere thank you to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 4 listeners - together we are breaking the grip of slavery.
