Residents of the Makululu community in Zambia participating in a Habitat for Humanity land rights and financial literacy training session.
I鈥檓 learning a lot from Habitat for Humanity鈥檚 training. I have started buying cement and materials to improve my home, and I鈥檝e started saving to pay for my own occupancy licence鈥
We are delighted that through the kindness of 成人快手 Radio 4 listeners, Habitat for Humanity Great Britain has raised over 拢12,000 to support our work in helping people out of housing poverty. Thank you!
In the appeal, writer and comedian Daliso Chaponda told the story of Tasila who lives in Makululu in Zambia. Housing in this community is basic - made of mud bricks and prone to collapse. Worst of all, the threat of eviction or 鈥榣and-grabbing鈥 is ever-present. Much of the land in Zambia is so-called 鈥榗ustomary land鈥 鈥 owned by indigenous communities over generations. Tasila had rights over her land, but needed the correct paperwork to prove it. This is where Habitat for Humanity step in, providing training sessions in land rights, home improvements, and financial literacy. This training enabled Tasila to acquire the necessary occupancy license to secure her home and learn DIY home improvement skills. Since our appeal, our work has continued in Makululu, helping us to reach more people just like Tasila.
Belina has recently joined our training group and says, 鈥淚鈥檓 learning a lot from Habitat for Humanity鈥檚 training. I鈥檓 learning all about how to save money and build a safe home. From my little savings I have started buying cement and materials to improve my home, and I鈥檝e started saving to pay for my own occupancy licence鈥.
Everyone at Habitat for Humanity Great Britain would like to once again say a big thank you to 成人快手 Radio 4 listeners 鈥 we are immensely grateful!
