No child should be hidden away because of their disability".
Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to our 成人快手 Radio 4 Appeal presented by Mark Doyle. Thanks to your kindness and generosity we were able to raise £10,014 to continue our work in inclusive education in Rwanda, Kenya and DRC, providing some of the world’s most vulnerable children access to a brighter future. Children like Claudette;
For Claudette, 14, who was born deaf in rural Rwanda, life has not always been easy. Her parents were ashamed of her because of her disability and didn’t want people to know they had a deaf child. When she was seven, her neighbours started exploiting her – getting her to clear up rubbish, sweep their homes and feed their cattle. It was no life for a vulnerable young child. Thankfully, she was referred to our Deaf School in Nyabihu. Despite initially resisting, her parents finally let her go and start learning. Now Claudette is confident. She’s learned to communicate using sign language and is no longer exploited by those who thought she could never have an education.
We would like to say a really big thank you to everyone who gave so generously to support our appeal. With your donations, many more children like Claudette will get access to the education they deserve. Our work simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of people like you, thank you so much. We truly value it.
