These days I am much happier; I enjoy being busy with my business and now others depend on me, I no longer depend on others... I do not want to follow a path identified for me by others; I want to make my own path.

Afghanaid would like to say a huge thank you to the Radio 4 listeners, who generously donated £38,006 to help vulnerable women in Afghanistan. We were overwhelmed by this response, which is already helping to change lives where it is needed most.
Your money is being used right now to help women gain the vocational skills, knowledge and tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty, command greater respect in their communities, and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
Your generosity will enable more young women like Afsa, 18 (pictured), to achieve their true potential and transform their futures. Two years ago, Afsa took part in Afghanaid’s vegetable cultivation, food processing and enterprise development training courses. She went on to set up her own business selling chutneys and vegetables and, two years on, it is thriving.
Your gifts will be long-lasting, as the women we help now can share their new skills with their communities and pass them down for many generations to come. Thank you! For thirty-five years, our dedicated staff have been on the ground, working with millions of deprived and excluded families in some of the poorest and most remote communities in Afghanistan.
We build basic services, improve livelihoods, strengthen the rights of women and children, help communities protect against natural disasters, and respond to humanitarian emergencies. Our community-led approach gives ordinary Afghans a voice in their own development, making them active participants in shaping the future of their country.
Thanks to your support, this year we will continue to make life better for more than 1,683,000 vulnerable people in Afghanistan.
