Thanks to the generous support of Radio 4 listeners, we can dedicate our time and resources to our education and awareness raising work to help prevent the occurrence of acid attacks here in the UK and overseas”

We would like to thank the many generous Radio 4 listeners who shared our appeal and donated to end acid violence. The support has raised £19,427 for Acid Survivors Trust International. We are a small organisation and the only charity to focus completely on acid violence worldwide. This appeal is an overwhelming encouragement.

The success of the appeal has provided us with the funding to dedicate time to design and develop our acid violence prevention project, which we are planning to pilot in the UK.  We believe that this project has the potential to be replicated beyond the UK, helping to educate on the horrific impact of an acid attack and thereby help reduce attacks occurring in the first place.

Acid violence is a life-altering and traumatic experience and is often incredibly costly. In Katie’s story, she referred to support of the NHS in her recovery. In many countries, survivors do not have access to this kind of medical care and their hospital fees can drive them and their family into poverty.

Thank you to all who listened and donated to our life-changing work. A special thank-you to our advocate, Katie Gee, for sharing her survivor story in support of our work.
