Having moved to lanzarote i was happy to see your photos of st ives.Somewhere i have a collection of Hilton photos as i used to keep the pub.If they would be of any use to you i could try and look them out for you.No promises but i,m very intrested in local history and i,m surrounded by pictures of st ives supplyed by my 2 daughters who still live in st ives.Please keep up the good work Mick Hester

As a boy we lived next door to Willis James and remember him as a great character,I was born in the house on the left.I now live in China so this is a nice surprise to see such a wonderful picture.

I was born in St Ives in 1932 and knew Baggy Reynolds. On Saturday evenings he and others (including Ted Andrews) would visit my father's (Harry Wright) barber shop in West Street for their weekly shave before attending to more pressing matters at the nearby Three Tuns public house.On Christmas ever they would come through to the lounge for a mince pie and a glass of sherry.My most vivid memory of Baggy was of him weaving his way happily home down West Street drunk as the proverbial on VE day 1945.He and his wife lived in a cottage on Ramsey Road opposite the old Grammar School. Mrs Baggy could often be seen standing in the doorway, arms folded across her chest, observing the passing world.Little did I think that I would ever sit here in New Zealand and find pictures of Baggy on the Net. I wonder what Baggy would think?

What a wonderful site.It brought back a lot of good memories.I lived for a time in Hemingford Abbots and remember the Axe & Compass very well.My late husband & I spent many an evening there it was the local meeting place.
