Cambridge Film Festival 2007

A host of movie buffs, brand new blockbusters and cinematic classics are hitting the Cambridge's venues for moving pictures. We've got a rough guide to what you can expect.

What has been your favourite movie? A five star service

With the Film festival underway, its your turn to be the critic. Saw a film you loved? Maybe you caught a movie you weren't so keen on. Go over to the Film Festival website and leave your reviews and give the movies you've seen a rating out of five stars.

Keira Knightley, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Kate Winslet. Those are just some of the people who won't be at this years Cambridge Film Festival. But of course that won't hamper the buzz and bustle that follows one of the most respected celluloid celebrations in the country.

Opening on the 5th July the events of the festival are spread across the city, meaning the red carpets will be rolled out at the Arts Picture House, Cambridge Cineworld and the Junction, while outside screenings will draw the crowds to Parker's Piece.

The big hitters will be on show, coming in the form of Kenneth Branagh's latest Shakespeare interpretation As You Like It - which stars Brian Blessed who will bless the screening with his presence - and Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraing 9. While richard Gere stars in The Hoax and Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion lead the way in The Waitress.

The UK premiere of Pascale Ferran's Lady Chatterly, which won 5 C茅sars, will get the ball rolling and heralds the beginning of New French Cinema for this years festival.

Bruno Dumont's Flanders, Laurent Tirard's Moliere and Pierre Salvadori's comedy Priceless are also among the offerings from our friends across the Channel.

There's also the opportunity to catch the work of up and coming talent, with the festival selecting 13 out of 800 little known films the nod to be screened.

These include Sol Papadopoulos' Under The Mud, which the Guardian described as "the greatest film you'll never see" and The Elephant King, the feature debut of award-winning US filmmaker Seth Grossman. Also, not to be missed, is the genre bending moc-doc effort of Tim Doiron, Rock Paper Scissors.

Arctic Tale

The list doesn't end there with environmentally orientated films like Sharkwater and Whale Dreamers, a New German Cinema strand featuring work from Birgit M枚ller, Bettina B眉lmner and the award winning Four Minutes by Chris Kraus, and retro reels including The Sound of Music and Last Tango In Paris.

However, an instant higlight is the free outdoor screening of the BFI National Archive restoration of the 1958 stonker Dracula, starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

Of course there's plenty more to keep your popcorn rustling until the festival ends on July 15th, but you just need to visit the website or get down to one of the cinemas for more details.
