Hi Tom. I fully agree with Amy. University is all well and good but without work experience you are on the same playing field as everybody else out there. I think a mixture of of travelling and work would be far more beneficial...employers look for work experience but they also look for real world experience (people skills develop greatly when travelling). I feel if you mixed the two up over 12 months, you would have a better chance of getting a decent outcome when you have finished your degree.

Hi Tom! just at work and was on the bbc website and saw you! i was suprised! i rekon u shud take the gap year, i know id love to do that. You can do Uni at anytime in your life, have this first i think! Have Fun whatever you do!
Amy
Gap year! I do geog at University of Hertfordshire (wierd!) and I took a gap year working in the environmental sector. You really need a break and you will feel better for it. Don't waste it though, work somewhere kinda relavent and when you go travelling bear in mind what you will be studying. It's those experiences that will give you the edge over everyone else!

Take a gap year - you will feel so much more confident starting at uni and it won't seem half such a big deal. But USE it, don't fritter it...
Nils
Take your gap year. This maybe the only time when you get to be with your family abroad for more than a month. Besides if you do go to Uni and then take an extended break afterwards, you may easily be left behind in the rat race of the business world--especially if you plan on building a career.

Go travelling! I'm in my gap year at the moment and I went travelling along the east coast of australia. I only went for a month but it was the best month of my life. Now is the best time to do it because when you leave uni you will get a mortgage and kids and all that baggage.
Sarah
Definately take a gap year! I felt the same as you a few years ago but I took a gap year, worked hard for a few months, then got to spend 3 months in New Zealand. It was such a great experience, I gained a lot of self confidence and learnt to manage my money - definately helped prepare me for uni! Many of my friends who went straight to uni regretted not taking a year out.

I don't know exactly what he should do..but I'm absolutly sure that he is really cute and sexy!!

i went to uni at 22 and found everyone had done a gap year. im in my third year now so its not going to hurt things
Jane
I think you should go straight to Uni. You can do your travelling later!
Grandad Dixon.
Go straight to Uni, get your head down and work hard and get your degree, then take a community project abroad to broaden your horizons. Good luck.
Lindsey
Have a gap year, life is so short. Put fun and family first, hard work can come afterwards and for the rest of your life. If you end up not being keen on going to uni, that is fate for you!
Sue
I didn't take a year out as I didn't want to get used to a life of non-studying. It was easier for me, as I intended to go to uni, anyway, to go straight there.

Take the year out and travel I think it will give you so much experience and make you ready for independence

Go for the Gap Year (this is a great site for ideas - www.realgap.co.uk ) Now in my mid 30's I still haven't found the time to travel. Also as you get into your 20's you will find there are loads of mature students at Uni so holding back for one year wouldn't make much difference!

i think your being totally ridiculous even considering taking a full year out of education. you will not benfit from this atall and would be far better sticking to education.
chelsea
gap year definitley you'll experience so much and regret it if you don't at least see what its like. it'll give you a year to wind down and you'll at least earn a bit of cash to actually support a student life. but hey your decision! ..x..x..
Vicky
I think you should take a gap year. I think later in life you wont be able to afford it, as right now you don't have to worry about spending your money on things like rent etc. If you're not sure to do, a gap year would be good time to think, and grow up as a person! Also, you could bum around with me in St.Neots while you're still around!!
Tom
Definately take a gap year. I have, and it gave me a year away from education - and after 13 straight years of it, the break was well appreciated! I also feel like I'm now more ready for Uni than ever, so when I do go in September I'll be looking forward to it even more.
sam.
take a gap year i am. althought ill be studing in my gap year i would rather be working and taverling. so yes take a gap year. sam

well. i know a few people who have gone straight to uni and wished that they had taken a year out, just to experience the world out there a bit. sure, life is short..but you have to live it a bit. if you wanna work and travel, or whatever, i think you should just do it. sure, it depends on the person, but i think you know for yourself what you really wanna do. another year of studying straight away? hmm.
Julian
My mate spent 6 months of their gap year in a meat packing factory!! I hope the travelling was worth it!
Andy
Go straight to Uni, I did and it meant that I was always a year ahead of my friends who took time off...You'll have plenty of time to travel later in life when you can really afford it!
