Wandlebury's woodland is delightful

A wander around Wandlebury?

Ever since the Cambridge Preservation Society acquired the Wandlebury Estate in 1954, people living in and around Cambridge have been able to enjoy the quiet tranquility of this beautiful woodland and chalk grassland area from dawn until dusk...

Cambridge Preservation Society acquired the Wandlebury Estate in 1954. Threat of housing development coincided with the Estate coming onto the market, and thanks to the generosity of the owner, Mr Terence Gray, and all who subscribed to the 'Save the Gogs' Fund, the Society was able to purchase outright the remaining parts of this 110 acre estate.

A paradise for walkers at Wandlebury

With its beautiful woodland and chalk grassland areas, it is open to the public for quiet recreation from dawn until dusk, every day of the year. The Society has embarked upon an ambitious educational programme to encourage visits from families and school groups, and has recently built a new Education Centre.

There are also a range of activities at Wandlebury that you can get involved in:

Third Saturday of the month: Volunteer Days

Meet at the main notice board and help the Rangers carry out various conservation tasks. No experience necessary, all ages welcome (under 16's must be accompanied by an adult), please dress according to the weather and be prepared to get a bit mucky! You will also need to bring a packed lunch. 10am-3.30pm.

Monday 2nd May: International Dawn Chorus Day

Meet at the Education Centre at 4.30am for a walk with the Rangers to listen to the birds as they welcome the rising of the sun. You can then return to the centre for a cup of hot soup. Please phone to book a place as numbers are limited - 01223 248706.

Saturday 4th June: Insect Safari

Meet at the Education Centre and join the Rangers as they check moth traps set the night before, and go on an "Insect Safari" and discover the secret lives of some of our smallest creatures. Please phone to book a place as numbers are limited - 01223 243830. 拢2.50 adults, children free.

Wandlebury Country Park is on the A1307 2.5 miles south of the Addenbrooke's roundabout. If you'd like to find out more, click on the link at the top of this page, or you can call Cambridge Preservation Society on 01223 243830.
