23 April 2007 to 23 April 2009: Breaking the Chains exhibition, British Empire and Commonwealth Museum
Breaking the chains tells the story of Britain鈥檚 involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, paying tribute to the resilience and courage of those who were enslaved and the abolition campaigners.
5 May to 17 June, 2007: Bristol Faces, Afrikan Footsteps. Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. FREE
Eight young Bristolians have been exploring their African heritage for the past year. The exhibition features video diaries, objects and other items which they have created during their journey of discovery.
10 May: 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade lecture. 7.30pm, John Wesley's Chapel, The Horsefair, Broadmead. FREE
Lecture by Bishop Joe Aldred, Secretary for Minority Ethnic Christian Affairs for Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and Churches Together in England (CTE). Bishop Joe is known for bringing together black and white Christians in worship.

A day-long meeting chaired by Ann Singleton (School of Policy Studies, University of Bristol). The event organised by the University of the West of England combines presentations and debate from activists and academics concerned with contemporary slavery.
