Surely one of the busiest artists around right now, Jamie T has finished his second album, is currently working on some new Eps and has also found time to craft this careful and respectful remix for Florence and The Machine. Reminicent of the Hacienda era, this keeps the spirit of the original but takes it on to the dancefloor. A fitting H.R to end the week. Have a great weekend, see you for a packed hype night on Monday. Comments please...
Peter Visti and Mayland's original gets a very deep workout from remixer Henrik Schwarz. This was supposed to be an underground spin for us
late in last nights show but it sounded so good, we felt that it should hold down tonights HOT. I can hear this one in the clubs this summer
but you tell us. zl.
Simian Mobile Disco return. With their skates, when you consider how much touring, and in James Ford's case, producing since their debut back in '07...
This one has been described by members of the team as cheeky and I can see why. Chris from Yeasayer provides a playful vocal with lots of pop references while SMD ignore their dark club tendencies for a looser, more summery feel. Pop basically. But good. Comments please.
Shish! It feels like everyone was in recovery mode after yesterday's heavy show with Eminem. So tonight, it's punk rock party time (with a conscience). Green Day celebrate their number one album '21st Century Breakdown' on Superstar Week with a session from Maida Vale. Check it out - whenever you want for the next seven days. (sorry, the Green Day session video is no longer available).
Not much to say here, this will speak for itself, The '09 interview, streaming for 7 days!
Not strictly a Hottest Record in the World but a massive worldwide exclusive nontheless. It's the return of Linkin Park, albeit in between albums, with this new soundtrack contribution, New Divide. The soundtrack in question is the new Transformers movie and the song finds LP in a midtempo and reflective mood. This is almost classic rock. A sign of things to come from a new album? Too early to say... but you know who'll be the first to give you the info when we get it. Anyway, enjoy.
Big night tonight on the show. Epic battle with MistaJam from 1Xtra simulcast across both stations.
An important step in that direction was tonight's Hottest Record. The return (making it sound like they've been away for a while when really they are brand new and working hard) of The Big Pink.
Big atmosphere with a tune that holds in the face of heavy production. So new, but already so identifiable.
Mr Hudson, or Mr H to Kanye, ushers both himself and Mr West back on to Radio 1 with his new hottest record, Supernova.
Kanye describes this as the kind of song that you want to hear in a field full of 100,000 people. Defintion: anthem.
Well, that may be, but there's no 'anthem' without 'them'. Them being you. You being the people who will decide... oh you get the picture. I for one have always though that Mr Hudson's ability has not reached a big enough audience. With a song like this and Kanye West in the picture, he couldn't have a better restart.
Holy moly...two world wide exclusives from two of the biggest superstars in the world. And two hottest records for a Tuesday. Brand new Eminem, brand new Green Day and the announcement of Superstar Week. These two artists gathered seperately at Maida Vale studios recently and recorded music and interviews exclusively for our show, and next week, you'll be able to hear them. Superstar Week - it's big. Anyway, it just so happens that these songs are both kind of mellow and reflective examples of their respective new albums which is great. Because both are.
Passion Pit are just great. It's the right side of sweetness. You know, adds pounds, but doesn't rot your teeth. So what remains to be seen, is whether this pop breakthrough band - breaks through.
Do they make you feel good? Do they capture your imagination? Don't think about it too long, just listen to today's hottest record and wait for the answers to come to you. Have a great big weekend...
Brand new Hottest Record from Danger Mouse under another guise. This time, 'Dark Night Of The Soul'. Collaboration heavy with featured guest spots from Iggy Pop, Flaming Lips and on this song, the welcome return of indies finest crooner, Julian Casablancas from La Strokes. Its a great tune I am really interested to hear more from this project which also features contributions from Film Director David Lynch and Mark Linkous aka Sparklehorse. That said, production projects leave me a little unfulfilled sometimes. Like Tapas. A lot of flavour but nothing to really sink your teeth into. Good start though.
Back on Tuesday with another Hottest Record, happy to have The Twang back with a free download called 'Another Bus' from their new album called 'Jewellery Quarter'.
To be honest, I'm blown away by the amount by the overwhelmingly positive response to this song. Not that we didn't expect the fans to react, but this feels like a proper return, and something The Twang needed after the hard graft of touring their debut album. Look out for the new single 'Barney Rumble' on our show.
Laterz....
Pow Pow Pow!!!! Hope you've all checked out the Maida Vale session from Gallows, and if not, at least the film of 'Vulture'. Powerful stuff to say the least. They're our Album of the Week with 'Grey Britain'
In terms of new tunes coming up - The Twang are back! It'll be this Tuesday's Hottest Record in the World. Plus, we've got fresh tunes from Eminem, Spinnerette and Fol Chen. Jack Penate's 'Be The One' was the natural choice for Single of the Week, and we thought we nick a tune from Nerm and D-Code's record box - the Babarix remix of Mistabishi - 'Printer Jam'. I witnessed Zane being crushed by that tune in 'Versus' last night. Very sad.
Keep leaving your comments about this week's Hottest Records...they're really important to us and the show...
Have a great Bank Holiday Monday - you've got a Lily Allen and Annie Nightingale special at 7pm, and we're back on Tuesday..fresh as a daisy!
