WHYS goes to the West Coast of America...

| 20:00 UK time, Friday, 26 October 2007

What do the people of Phoenix Arizona want to talk to the world about?

As our broadcast from Phoenix Arizona is on 31st October, Halloween to many, perhaps the show will have a supernatural feel to it. Perhaps we’ll persuade Ros to leave his navy blue World Service t-shirt in the hotel room and dress him up as a witch for the occasion. Probably wasted on radio though, so let’s concentrate on the issues that may come up for discussion in Phoenix...

Our partner station for the day is , Ros is very much looking forward to sharing hosting duties with Steve Goldstein, . (I haven’t spoken to Steve yet so I can’t confirm how he is feeling about the experience). Steve has a regular slot on KJZZ with Governor Janet Napolitano, who we are very pleased to say will also be joining the broadcast.

We have already received this e-mail from listener Michelle…

I would be interested in hearing a show about the water crisis that Phoenix is causing downstream on the Colorado as well as their own impending crisis. I recently read a book by Fred Pearce called When the Rivers Run Dry in which he predicts that Phoenix will be the first city in the US to have their plumbing system collapse due to the water shortage that the city itself has helped cause. If you can locate some water experts who are educated on this area, I think you would have a very interesting subject there…

So that’s one topic already, I’d love to hear more suggestions. If you don’t live in Arizona, have you ever been there? Tell us your experiences. News Director at KJZZ Mark Moran says we’ll be staying about five minutes away from the largest mall in the state, and to bring an extra suitcase…..Oh dear.
