Wednesday's talking points

| 10:14 UK time, Wednesday, 25 April 2007

Certain members of the World Have Your Say team could be accused of starting blog posts with football news that may not necessarily always interest a worldwide audience. I’m one of them, and I was going to talk about improving the chances of a first ever all English European Cup final.

But news has just broken of the . He was the youngest member of the England squad that won the World Cup in 1966, and in fact, the first man you see congratulating Geoff Hurst in the footage that accompanies the infamous “They think it’s all over, it is now%E2%80%9D commentary. You can read some tributes here.

What stories have caught your eye today?

Jessica Lynch, the US army private who became the “heroic face of the Iraq war%E2%80%9D has testified to Congress and criticized the Bush administration for twisting the truth for public relations in war time. She said the “story of the little girl Rambo from the hills who went down fighting%E2%80%9D was untrue, and told of her confusion as to “why they made me lie%E2%80%9D. It’s all pretty damning, especially when you , brother of Pat Tillman, the man who gave up a lucrative career as an American footballer, and was killed by his own platoon.

“A terrible tragedy that might have further undermined support for the war in Iraq was transformed into an inspirational message that served instead to support the nation’s foreign policy wars in Iraq and Afghanistan%E2%80%9D

From a quick internet search, it’s obviously got people in America talking.

Ethiopia
, killing nine Chinese and 65 Ethiopian workers. China has strongly condemned a separatist rebel attack against its interests in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian leader has denounced the attack as "cold blooded murder". China has been working to increase it's influence in Africa in recent years as it looks to secure energy supplies for the future. What impact will this have on those plans?

Controversial DJ comments. Part 2
. We’ve talked on the programme about the comments made by Don Imus (he called a female basketball team “nappy headed hoes%E2%80%9D) so it’s interesting to hear this prank was aired the day after Imus made his charming remark. And by the same network, CBS. Imus has since been fired, so do this pair deserve the same punishment? Chair of the New York city branch of the Organisation of Chinese Americans, says:

"They don't think they're going to get any backlash from the Asian-American community, They're definitely wrong"

Perhaps we could look into that today?

Abortion
, and an “abortion ship%E2%80%9D is planning to sail to countries where the practice is illegal to take women out to sea for terminations. It's a topic that always gets people talking - do either of these stories justify an abortion debate today?
