Alan Johnston, Abstinence and Nigeria
Two of this morning's topics are in along with a third: Nigeria's elections. The German Army video was a good' un and my Turkey suggestion got one other backer (unusual) but ultimately, both were eclipsed by bigger talking points.
Read on for more details on what we'll be talking about on tonight's show.
Alan Johnston
Hang in there Alan. We'll be hearing your reaction to the horrible rumours surrounding the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Gaza correspondent. I personally don't believe them, it's hard to think of a something that could harm the Palestinian people's case more than killing a journalist. This comment just came into our blog from Maria:
I'm so sorry to hear about this latest, awful development in Alan's situation and I feel terribly for you, Anna, Ros and everyone else on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ staff, not to mention his family. I hope the kidnappers are just a bunch of liars trying to get a rise out of people. I do wish someone would do the right thing and just let him go. And I'm wishing very hard, as I'm sure everyone else is, too.
Abstinence.
This is pretty convinced that teaching abstinence is useless but, according to research, it was effective in cutting Uganda's AIDs rate a couple of years ago.
We want to know what your sex education was like when you were at school . . ? Mine involved diagrams, models and a huge amount of sniggering.
Nigeria
In Nigeria over the weekend 40 people are reported to have been killed in election violence and as I write the supreme court that Vice President Abubakar can be allowed to stand in the elections. There are doubts that ballot papers can be printed in time . . it's all going off down there and tonight we'll be hearing from Nigerians about how they feel (dodgy phone lines permitting). Let us know how you feel about prospects for a peaceful election: post a comment below.
