Should Latin America be more grateful to the US?
Here's today rundown. If you'd like our topics emailed to you each day, if you email me I'll put you on the list. More details here.
1. SHOULD LATIN AMERICA BE MORE GRATEFUL TO THE UNITED STATES?
Hugo Chavez and George Bush are both touring around Latin America giving their distinct views of the role the US has to play in the region. White House officials have called this a "year of engagement" to counter what they acknowledge is a negative view of their country. But is that view deserved?
George Bush's team is armed with to show the depth of commitment that America has for its southern neighbours.
So are you convinced? Are people like Hugo Chavez painting an inaccurate picture of what America is doing? Should, in fact, the people of Latin America being showing a little more gratitude?
2. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN ZIMBABWE?
There's been since yesterday's opposition public meeting in Harare. The leader of Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change is said to have been arrested and badly beaten according to his lawyer.
A government minister has accused the opposition of being 'involved in violence, caught by police with weapons of destruction and destroying cars and stores and beating up people'.
We're going to do our best to hear your accounts of what is happening there. It's not always easy as the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ is not allowed to operate in Zimbabwe, but we do have listeners there and we're hoping some will call.
THE CLOCKS THEY ARE A-CHANGIN
There are lots of clock changes going on over the next couple of weeks. What it does to WHYS is a deadly combination of being mind-bendingly complicated and not that interesting. I'll tell you about it in small doses for fear of you drifting away to more interesting blogs, suffice to say we're in the studio an hour earlier than normal, we're doing 2 hours this week and some of you will hear the first hour, the rest of you the second, and in theory none of you will hear both.
Clear? The main news is that WHYS stays the same time for you.
You can look forward to the next gripping clocks update at the beginning of next week when the routine shifts again.
Speak to you later.
Cheers,
Ros
