What springs to mind when you think of Harlem? According to Ύ±³Ωβsβ¦
β¦a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan, long known as a major black cultural and business center. After being associated for much of the twentieth century with black culture, but also crime and poverty, it is now experiencing a social and economic renaissance.
To me, Harlem means, , , the β¦
, and all started life here, and itβs - an unprecedented outburst of creative activity - in the 1920βs and 30βs is well documented.
Sylviaβs Soul Food restaurant is a Harlem landmark, a family run business thatβs been serving up southern style food to the community since 1962.
says itβs a place βwhere you can actually meet people of many nationalities and cultures from around the worldβ. Sounds perfect to us, and weβre very much looking forward to the introduction to the local people, and food!
Ros has a busy week on his hands, so for this show, weβve signed up to assist with presenting duties. Heβs a rapper from Staten Island who joined us on the programme back in January. Heβd caused a bit of a stir with his song βYβall should all get lynchedβ, and his comments that black people should stop disrespecting each other by using the word βniggerβ.
The city council of New York , Iβm sure NY Oil will have plenty to say on thisβ¦.
