The age of reason
Just finished our meeting where about twelve "possibles" got whittled down to two main ones.
We're going to try to get a supporter of Fatah and a supporter of Hamas to debate with each other under the loose question "Who Should Run Gaza?", following what appears to be there.
The idea would be to hear from them, and then get people around the world to give us their views - and pose their questions.
The other issue we'll look at is age discrimination.....
The "peg" for this is the British Government bringing in new laws - which originated from an EU employment directive - to in the workplace on the grounds of how old somebody is.
We want to know if you've experienced this kind of discrimination wherever you are in the world - and whether legislation (which is in place in countries like among others ) is the way to change people's attitudes.
Please contact us with your thoughts.
By the way, for those who don't live in London, there was a time when the elderly in this city were known as "twirlys" by the capital's bus drivers. The reason was that here you are allowed free travel on public transport if you're 65 and over.......but only from 9.30 in the morning. Some people would try to get on the buses before that time and would wave their passes appealingly at the drivers and say "is it too early ("twirly") to use this?"...
