And Russia's FSB security service chief, Nikolai Patrushev, announced on Monday that the most wanted Chechen rebel warlord, Shamil Basayev, has died in an explosion in the neighbouring republic of Ingushetia. It ws described as part of a 'special operation'.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Moscow correspondent James Rodgers says:
The death of Shamil Basayev will deliver Moscow a big propaganda victory. It does not constitute a final victory over the forces who have fought the Kremlin's rule for more than 10 years.
