Kuwaiti women vote

Fiona Crack | 13:30 UK time, Tuesday, 4 April 2006

For the first time It's a by-election in the Salmiya district and two women candidates are amongst the eight people up for nominatation.

We're going to talk to Mawdy Al-Homood, President of Arab Open University and Dr Massouma al Mubarak who was Kuwait's first woman Cabinet member who both campaigned for women's right to vote. We also want to hear from Kuwaiti women and men about their reaction to the election.

What do you think about the move? Does this mark the emancipation of women in Kuwait and what does it mean for women in the Middle East? Send us your views and please include your phone number if you would like to be a caller on the programme.
