World Cup 2006 Blog

From our reporters in Germany

Take My Breath Away

glen_levy.gif BERLIN - Day one in Germany and it looks like we're off to a flying start. For the uninitiated, I'm producing the World Cup Daily, a behind the scenes video package for the website and our interactive coverage.

Whilst we await the arrival of our presentation team, I've had a tour of the Berlin studios and the view, as you'll all see when we come on air this Friday, is to die for.

Meanwhile, I'm getting to grips with my DV camera and the editing equipment. Early tests have seen me interviewing my colleagues, filming the analysis guys putting circles on players and - most crucially - covering a keenly contested table football match. Methinks that the unofficial World Cup has already begun...

Hi,
I have been trying to post my thoughts on the Media's obsession with reminding the whole of the Uk (not just the new borns that wont of heard about it) on some tv programme, radion station, magazine or newspaper that England won the World Cup in 66. Italy/Brazil have both won it more times and dont go on about their (even more famous) victories. Can you concede that the Media must stop going on about a 40year old victory although it is Englands only. The Rooney SAGA is 10 times worse. I used to think, he was a great talent and was destined for great things. He possibly still could be but if i was a Opposition player at the WC id be going in v.hard on that foot and hopefully causing life crippling damage. Sounds a bit harsh but we Scots would no longer have to put up with watching Rooney Updates on Scotish Television or picking up a Scottish tabloid to find 'Wonder Wayne' as the top story.

This is not a complete dig at the English but if you saw it from this point of view you would realise it is extremely irritating having the English Media dominating the whole nations topic of conversation purely for financial gain.
