And it was today. Adama and Olivier were sat on a roof in Abidjan-two very proud Ivory Coast fans and they joined in throughout the programme. They replayed their defeat to Argentina with Luis who called us from London with his blue and white shirt on. Alarmingly for the other teams in the tournament, Luis thinks Argentina only played at 75 per cent and he was a bit disappointed with them!
Amanda and Stace Marie are best friends. They called us. Alyson asked Stace-Marie if she is a T and T fan; "hardcore" was the reply...."Amanda, are you a Sweden fan?"...."with all of my heart" was her reply. They chatted to each other, one a lot happier than the other. Amanda said she was "embarassed" by her country's performance while Damien, another Soca Warrior fan said he felt his team hadn't had enough credit for "earning" their point.
The show finished with Kimi (an Angola fan) and Ali (a Portugal fan) previewing their game and both hoping it doesn't get nasty.
There wasn't room for any puzzlement over Sven's tactics (again) but everyone agreed that booing your own player (as England fans did to Owen Hargreaves) was unacceptable.
The joy in the voices of the Trinidad and Tobago fans is what this tournament is all about.
takes the presenter's chair for the next ten days- he's a top broadcaster and a fellow Hammer so talk to him!

HEAT, HEAT, HEAT
While I would not wish to make concessions for some strange tactical decisions by Sven we must remember that searing heat, and strong sunshine has a major impact on the abilities of English players. It happend in Japan against Brazil - we just melted away in the second half. And while the good news is future England games are being played later in the day, I note, in our half of the draw it will not be until the semi-final when England actually play at nighttime. Pray for rain and a cold snap!

I was able to see the Serbia & Montenegro VS Holland Game. In spite of Serbia & Montenegro attempting to defend itself, Holland managed to get one goal and remain with one goal until the end of the game.
Group D Started with Mexico VS Iran. I was able to enjoy part of the game on Radio Caracol and on the television sets in a Miami Shopping Mall [where many store owners watched the World Cup with their employees]. The score was 1 to 0 in favor of Mexico [while I was having Coffee at a Coffee Shop].
Afterwards, I was able to see some part of the game. Finally, I went to an electronic store [where the owners and employees were watching the World Cup] and inquired about Mexico VS Iran. Their reply: "Mexico 3 Iran 1". It was a great game [even though I was able to appreciate portions of the game].
I am still writing from the shopping mall and I am seeing Portugal 1 Angola 0. I will be back later.

When are we going to accept that, perhaps the England team (this and previous) does not have the intelligence and ability to be successful in the international tournaments. We keep using ready made excuses such as manager's substitutions, hot weather, etc but the fact of the matter is lack of ability and intelligence to keep possession (credit to Gary Lineker who keeps mention the fact!) and the perennial "kick n follow" :-) tactics is the problem.
The point is, the condition is the same for every team but the England team continues to do the only thing they know how to do, kick it long! These are historic instances in the summer competitions regardless of who the manager is. Somehow I if feel the problem lies in the players' abilities, or lack of! And the fact that the English tactics and mentality is no longer effective at the international stage, especially in the summer competitions!

michael owen can't cut it anymore. He can't make a goal from nothing like he used to. Defoe can, and he can be a goal poacher too, big mistake leaving him behind. Ashton should have been in the squad instead of walcott; he is similar to shearer in that he is great on the ground aswell as the air. Becks should cut out the long diagonal passes as he only has a 50% success rate with these. Rio is too fond of the long hoofed ball also, you don't see any of the other major teams waste possession on long balls as much as England. Beckham is only in the team for his delivery at set pieces. This is a waste as Gerard is just as effective in this regard.Drop Beckham and play lennon as his pace scares the life out of defenders. Beckham offers little in open play as he is too slow and one-paced.

Sven...PLEASE take Lampard off...he has wasted SO many chances it have to laugh about it to stop myself from crying. Take him off, put Crouch on.

Re: Australia v Italy
Why did Italy bother to sign up to the Fair Play charter? It is a disgrace that they should be allowed to proceed in the tournament. FIFA should insist that 30 minutes of extra time should be played, perhaps after one of the other games?. I hope that Italy are soundly beaten in the next round for their cheating.
