At 1.09am, Chris Steele in Towyn, near Rhyl, wrote: "There has just been quite a powerful eathquake in Towyn which caused my desk and computer monitor to shake and pots to rattle. I have never experienced one quite as powerful as that before and thought I should write in a tell you."

Once again there are calls for St David's Day to be made a bank holiday in Wales, as reported by the . The article lists the number of bank holidays enjoyed by other European countries - while England and Wales have a mere eight, Slovenia have twice that with a whopping 16 bank holidays a year! Interesting how times change. In the 1400s, Oswestry became known as as it was burned and nearly destroyed by the Welsh. Now any attempt to make it Welsh would, presumably, be conducted much more diplomatically.

An article on the website for Flintshire firms, , highlights an article in the latest edition of the Holywell Business Newsletter which is looking positively to the opening of the town's new Tesco store later this month.
And they appear hopeful that the supermarket could be good news for High Street trade [which is in contrast to the fears being expressed to a planned development in Denbigh].
The article states: "The monthly footfall counting exercise... has shown the number of people entering and leaving the town centre via Victoria Square has increased by an average of 240% since Lidl opened in comparison to a footfall count carried out in the same place prior to the opening.

Immigrants should be told not to touch people without permission, spit in the street or play loud music, has said. Ms Blears proposed that councils issue welcome packs to migrants explaining UK customs, including advice on queuing.
It seems to me that some locals could heed the advice too, don't you think?
The idea comes as ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Wales' from says a report produced for the Welsh Assembly Government found that migrant workers are not keeping Welsh people out of jobs.

What do you think about the idea in Flintshire that Buckley Elfed and Mold Alun schools are to adopt a fingerprinting scheme where pupils will use their print instead of cash to make purchases in the canteen? picks up on the concerns of one mother who reckons the idea is like fingerprinting criminals.
The scheme does offer an alternative. Children can use a pin number but. Under the scheme, credit will be added to pupils' account and then the system will make deductions. The idea is working elsewhere and a fingerprint can be used to sign out library books, etc.

Local artist Paul Jones's new exhibition at celebrates the work of the cleaner at the town's maisonettes [ courtesy of flickr.com]. The display is made up of photos to show the day in the life of the guy whose job it is to clean up after everyone else. Paul seems to have found art in the mundane - but could you find the same appreciation?
