Silver surfers & a toothless lion
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Wales IT programme, mousemat, interviewed contributors to our village life pages for their latest show to find out why two communities in particular seem to be so popular with more mature web users.
You can listen again to the report but Norma, Alun & David basically said they felt it was a great way to stay in touch and share memories to do with where they grew up (Cefn Mawr & Acrefair).
I told the programme that ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Wales' Where I Live websites enabled people to discuss all aspects of local life and sharing memories was a big part of that. You know, the kind of stories that whilst of interest aren't necessarily saved for posterity. Cue the toothless lion story.
Basically, one contributor to the website wanted to know if a story about a lion running through the streets of Cefn Mawr had any element of truth. And sure enough people responded to the enquiry to say that the lion, albeit aged and toothless, had done a runner but was later found asleep at the foot of some steps in the village. Imagine walking past that sight!
By the way, there are now more than 100 town mini sites offering places to chat about local life in Wales on bbc.co.uk/wales.
