Gŵyl Arall (Another) Festival in Caernarfon

An exciting arts festival hits Caernarfon this weekend and promises to be jam-packed full of literature, music, art and film.

Howard Marks and Rhys Ifans are two of the big names to feature at the on Saturday night. The two are set to chat to Nia Medi, though the talk is already sold-out. It follows Ifans' recent portrayal of Marks in film , which premièred at the Edinburgh Film Festival last month.

Race Horses

Friday evening kicks off with the opening of the festival's art exhibition, with work by artists such as Elfyn Lewis, Luned Rhys Parri, Morgan Griffith and Mari Gwent. This is followed with musical performances by Race Horses and Gai Toms.

Events on Saturday include a storytelling workshop for children, Jac a'r Blwch Aur, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke will give a talk and readings, while Rachel Trezise will also talk about her latest novel Sixteen Shades Of Crazy.

Saturday evening events include Cofiland - a chance to watch a series of short films based on Caernarfon by local film makers inside the walls of the castle - while Tudur Owen, Meic Stevens and Mr Huw provide the night-time entertainment.

Travel writer Jim Perrin and the former National Poet of Wales Gwyn Thomas are due to give talks on Sunday afternoon, while Welsh Artist of the Year Elfyn Lewis will also give a talk on his remarkable prize-winning year. Welsh band Geraint Løvgreen a'r Enw Da look set to finish the festival in style.

Gŵyl Arall runs from Friday 23 July until Sunday 25 July. .
