So long STORYFix
STORYFix is ending. It was part of a ("vodcasting") trial run by the 成人快手. That trial finishes at the end of this month, and so does STORYFix.
There won't be a "best of" DVD. Neither will there be a Christmas special.
As they say in the media, the team will be moving on to other projects, having learned a lot from the project. Thanks for subscribing and thanks for e-mailing in.
UPDATE, MON 07:30 PM: Thanks for all your comments - I've responded to some of them here.

A shame that StoryFix is ending, as it's been enjoyable to watch each week. Oh well, I guess all good things have to come to an end some time.
That's a big shame - it was the highlight of my news-based week! Now I suppose I'll have to go back to getting my news fix in the more boring way - the internet. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Thank Goodness for that !! This truly abysmal dumbed down nonsense is not something for which I will shed any tears whatsoever. Although the fact that a 'one-minute news-you-can-use' substitute is appearing at 8pm appears to be more than a co-incidence..
Good lord! I would have never thought storyfix would have ended.
It's great and really really should be continued!!!
What a shame, please reconsider. It usually made good viewing.
I'm sad about this. I really enjoyed STORYFix.
It's a shame it's ending, but thank you for some great editions.
Well done to everyone who makes StoryFix. It's a shame that something so quirky and enjoyable is being killed off, no doubt to be replaced by more endless speculation about the latest non-news...
Oh no! Nicola Pearson's was the best. She's a LADY!
"storyfix"
I'm sorry but, ha ha ha ha
If ever there was an apt name for a 成人快手 program! Are you thinking of retaining the title, perhaps as a replacement for Newsnight?
What a shame.
First the podcast of Radio 4's "The Now Show" is stopped and now StoryFix!
Why do the 成人快手 keep doing this? Ok, the vodcast trial, like the podcast trial was designed to last a limited period, but that doesn't imply that just stopping them all is the best option. Surely some decision should be made as to whether they should be made a permanent feature or not, then removed. Kicking away loyal views with the justification that the trial is at the end seems ludicrous, given that assuming the trials were popular (I don't know, the 成人快手 hasn't given much information, although the published listenerships of the podcast trial suggests some elements have worked), it should be something the 成人快手 should look into continuing, and if they do restart something similar, it will have to build up the views/listeners again!
STORYfix was great whilst it lasted anyway.
No! No! No!
Surely someone can think of a way to save it. Compulsive viewing each week; most importantly, it is the news media not taking itself seriously for a change.
And for anyone who thinks it is 'dumbing down'... ohhhhhh SHUT UP... of course it is dumbed down, but it is entirely optional viewing, and unless it is being run in Newsnight's slot then I don't think you have much to complain about!
Shame! Say a bit more about what worked and what didn't, Mark - your entry is a little cursory! It was great - why couldn't it continue?
I agree... StoryFix is great, its the beginning of the weekend!!
Is there no way of keeping it going...?
I will miss it!
成人快手 stock just went down some more!
Gutted! Truly.
STORYfix was a very good programme and it's surprising you have decided to end it. I always thought it was a nice touch in comparison to what normally is a very Middle England News Channel.
All these podcasts are part of a trail and it is starting to get annoying that so many of them are ending. I got quite annoyed when radio 4's Now Show podcast stopped, now storyfix is going; I really can't see why.
StoryFix was one of the most entertaining 5 minuets of downloadable free video you could get. It was excellent and it is such a shame it is stopping.
What a sad day :(
I am appauled to hear Storyfix is to be axed by the 成人快手. Why is it everytime the 成人快手 come up with something quirky and unique (such as Liquid News), they decide to axe it without physically asking the public if we think it's a worthwile show. I have loved every episode, and have every single one saved on my mobile. Am sure the news team will miss the show too.
I hated it so I'm not sorry. Has the 'trial' been evaluated? Will the results be published?
Right then StoryFix, I鈥檓 not very happy. I really hope this 鈥淪toryFix has been canned鈥 thing is just a very very very very....etc, late April Fools joke. Either way, I have a proposition for you. We鈥檙e all very aware of the effect of YouTube and other video services online. Well, I reckon that you should release the opening credits, the backing music, the various sound effects (i.e. typing) and the ending credits to the public so we can make our own StoryFix episodes (and possibly pitch them to the 成人快手?).
If this can't happen, then I just have to say this: it's been a long run and I've enjoyed every angstrom-second of it.
Nooo! I absolutely love StoryFix. It's just a fantastic take on the week's news... and enough with those 'dumbing down' comments. I don't think StoryFix was ever intended to be serious - it showed the lighthearted side to the 成人快手.
It may have started as a vodcast, but now it's grown to have many, many viewers online, on News 24 and on Interactive as well as the vodcast subscriptions, so please 成人快手 - rethink this decision and don't cancel our five minutes of weekly news fun!
No! Boo! Hatred towards the axe-ees! Why? Why are you doing this? It was so much more that a vodcast! Infact I'd only ever watch it online or on the news multiscreen! And it was shown on News 24 as well, you could be axing a programme that actually has a massive audience, you just don't realise it! It will rise from the dead one day, I'm sure of it.
I'll be really sorry to see Storyfix go and would like to know why.
鈥淭here won't be a "best of" DVD鈥,
Quite right too, it was rubbish! What an awfully simple MTV-generation look at the news it was.
Bah! I've really enjoyed Storyfix, and it's a shame it has to end. If it was a trial run, what made you decide it wasn't worth continuing with?
The 成人快手 was criticised by the 成人快手 Trust for an apparent 'lack' of innovation in their annual report, yet it is down to the 成人快手 Trust's very own "Public Value Tests" that brilliant programmes like StoryFIX are being axed. How on earth can we expect the 成人快手 to be innovative if they have to keep sticking to the, for want of a better word, beurocracy that the trust imposes of carrying out stringent 'tests' on every brilliant idea the beeb has? It has been the same with the iPlayer, the 成人快手 were way ahead of competitors with a complete product until they were stopped in their tracks by the trust. I think it's high time that programmes should be placed at the top of the agenda, not paperwork. Let's hope something similar replaces StoryFIX, permanently!
STORYFix is brilliant, and should not end. I've been enjoying its weekly appearance in my iTunes podcast list here in the western USA, and I will miss it terribly.
Story Fix, only young-ish jaundice look at news items. 成人快手 wants to encourage younger audiences - axing Story Fix - will have the opposite effect - Very Bad 成人快手 !!!
Such a shame. A humorous look at the weeks news, in 90 seconds, made my weekend perfect.
I guess the money and time could be better spent elsewhere but I shall dearly miss StoryFix. I like the idea of the daily 8pm bulletin being done in that style - now that would boost ratings.
Surley a trial is something that carries on if sucsessful...?
It'll be a shame to see it go.
"Things are nearing an end, and we have no time to show you anything"
Ahhh ... it was frivalous and fun. I鈥檒l miss it. Not for its factual content, but for the weekly smirk it gives me c/o Auntie.
Roll on the next mad trial!
I know it's not to everyone's tastes, but really like watching the Storyfix montages at the weekend.
So, I'm really sorry to see it go, especially when I consider some of the program making I could mention that gets the nod. Ah well, all good things and all that.
A shame it is ending.
i found it an interesting and informative 5 minute blast of news.
it was also good to see the various presenters in a bit more "relaxed" mode.
If only it had been given a decent timeslot.
i spose the bbc has so many other excellent programmes i can watch.
no wait,it doesn't.(biting sarcasm-ish).
What? I was looking forward to buying the season 1 DVD!
Well it was good well it lasted...
Boo indeed.
It is truely a shame that Storyfix is ending. It was one of my favorite vodcasts -- even living here in America it beat out some of our best in my opinion.
I guess that's the end of the 成人快手 on my iPod, unless you bring it back, leaving the other news network the only source of British news on it.
Here's hoping for a renewal... or at least the best episode to come next week!
" All these podcasts are part of a trail.."
" one of the most entertaining 5 minuets .."
" I am appauled to hear Storyfix.."
" Ahhh ... it was frivalous and fun..."
RIP STORYFix - dangerously simplistic 'news' summary for people who cannot spell.
I find it amazing that people have the time to post about how good it is that a news programme that is on a website for download (ie completely your choice as to if you watch it or not) is ending.
I can see why something that is stuck in the middle of a schedule might get in they way of something you would rather watch - but Storyfix is there if you want it, and not if you don't. If you don't like it - don't download it (and don't whine about it).
At least most of the posters 'get it' - it was a pretty smart way of 'dumbing down'.
What a disappointment to lose a segment in the 鈥淎nd Finally鈥︹ tradition, no doubt to accommodate more trailers and vacuous exchanges in the, 鈥淲hat exactly is it that we don鈥檛 yet know about the situation?鈥 style.
Bad 成人快手! Bad! This is probably the best edited programme on TV, it's superb. It raises a chuckle every week for me, without fail.
And it's also on the "Red Button", so hardly exclusive to the web.
I think this should be subject to a "review" and returned to our screens ASAP!
Bad
StoryFIX ending
Good
... :( there is no Good
It was a great idea with mixed excecutions - the presenting was generaly woeful, but the editing was sharp as a tack.
Still, a shame the PTB have decided it should take itself too seriously :)
I only started watching StoryFix after I saw it on SKY's 成人快手i after it was installed 4 weeks ago. I started downloading the podcast a week later and now have three of them. Why does it have to end now!!?
Well. I didn't know you cared. Or rather, I thought you might, but not that much, and I think I owe you a better explanation of why STORYFix is ending.
I'm genuinely sad to see it go, and I say that as the person who came up with the idea back in March last year and has overseen its production ever since. It was supposed to be an experiment to see if we could get information across in a very different way from traditional news bulletins. I think it did exactly that, and I'm really pleased it built up a loyal following on all the different platforms it's been available on.
But it's pretty expensive to make, and although it's obviously made an impact, it's never really got big figures either online or as a download. That, and the end of the video podcasting trial, contributed to the decision to call it a day. I'm really sorry that's upsetting for many people (though not all, obviously), but the decision is part of a bigger picture. I think we've learned a lot from STORYFix - good and bad - and we can use a lot of that knowledge in the future. I think at its best, it had wit, a real sense of fun, and an endearing irreverence. There'll be other projects coming soon to a device near you, and we want those qualities to live on in them.
Storyfix being canned and new things in the future.. I hope we dont get iplayer replacement versions that people not on Windows are unable to view. Though I suspect the licensor will insist more and more content is pushed over their proprietory system. Seems sad that a simple and free way to get access to content I already pay for via a license fee is going. I dont get analogue TV reception at anywhere near acceptable quality and there is no digital transmission here until it all turns off from analogue - even then I will get a very simple selection of channels. Vodcasts were a way of keeping in touch with the 成人快手 and its output. Sign of the times perhaps?
Mark
I think it's very important to remember when you dreaming up other new formsthat the tone of the thing was great and whatever the, er, tradionalists who 'just dont get it' say it was in no way dumb.
"I did not have the time to write you a short letter so I wrote you a long one instead."
:)
I'm with Ian above that canning both Storyfix and the Now Show takes away two of the best p/vodcasts available anywhere. THe purpose of trials is that good things carry on.
And why can't you do a Christams Special? Doctor Who's seem to go down very well. Go on, indulge us.
When Miryam said that STORYFix was ending I stopped eating (only for a while though). I then proceeded to argue with my wife about whether it was a joke or not. Sadly, it isn't.
STORYFix, as a stand-alone programme, obviously appeals as the vast majority of posts above indicate, regardless of the way we take our 'coffee'. I can't imagine the news being put in such a way again. I watch News 24 a lot and have to say that I must've been doing other things because I've missed quite a few of the items in the summary.
It was very good to see the less 'well-known' presenters (I apologise if I offend) having a go, and as a vehicle for them, surely they must have got a lot out of it.
I'm sure I'd pay an extra 拢5 a year to keep STORYFix on air. Is there an action group to keep it on air?
Thank you for such a hip and very entertaining programme. 'She' will be missed.
Just wanted to say that I really liked StoryFix and would welcome its return.
"I think it did exactly that, and I'm really pleased it built up a loyal following on all the different platforms it's been available on."
What's the point of loyalty if your going to stop it?
Very sad to hear that tonight's edition of StoryFix was the last.
I thoroughly enjoyed the quick-wit, fun and entertaining style.
The presentation and format was refreshing, whilst remaining informative.
This WAS without doubt one of the highlights of the News 24 production.
Please look again at the decision to scrap it - it deserves to run and run and run.
DVD of all StoryFix? Anyone? Well I'm going to be making my own. I have the theme tune (check Wikipedia) and dodgy video editing software (Windows Movie Maker) so stand back Britain, StoryFix is going to come back soon.....
Storyfix, aimed at a supposedly young audience by time proven device of alienating an older one.
Too much information with an irritating disc beat. That damned bop bop bop bop bop bop drove me to channel hopping.
Required viewing for those who had just come home but not for us boring old farts who usually wake up in the mornings.
NO NO NO!!! Storyfix kicks off the weekend. I force fed it via ipod to my partner one Saturday morning and he laughed his spleen out. Addicted since. PLEASE ask someone to think again. I was waiting to see James Landale present one. That would have been priceless. I feel helpless - tantrum time NO NO NO NO NO! (oh, ... and THANKS)
Story Fix off the air - it should have a half an hour slot not eradicate this excellent program Shame on 成人快手 - stuck for space take off Click repeated ad nauseam
Story Fix off the air - it should have a half an hour slot not eradicate this excellent program Shame on 成人快手 - stuck for space take off Click repeated ad nauseam
I didn't even realise StoryFix was available as a vodcast until recently. I became hooked on StoryFix the old-fashioned way--television. Were our viewing figures ever counted in the decision to axe it?
As for dumbing down, that could certainly be said for the way 'regular' news outlets often present what they consider news, e.g. Paris Hilton, the Beckhams every move, ad nauseum. StoryFix was a tongue-in-cheek self-mocking look at news presentation as much as the news itself.
If the on demand team won't do it, Mr. Balex, please pass it on to another. I'm sure they'd love the break from supposedly serious content.
Thank goodness "John Stewart's The Daily Show" is still available (More4).
I am with the minority and rejoice at the passing of the banal and unedifying Storyfix. It will save me having to switch across to Sky in future.
As it seems to be popular with some, but obviously not enough, and was aimed, as has been said, at the younger viewers, why not transfer it to children's television.
Did they take into consideration that a lot of us watched Storyfix on Freeview? i loved it and never downloaded it but didn't realise it would be axed because i didn't. How could it be so expensive when it was a load of old clips with a presenter linking them?
i think you're making a mistake, and will miss seeing the humourous side of my favourite presenters, especially James Dagwell & Emily Maitliss.
Bring back STORYFix, or at least its progeny! Was good to see that presenters have a human side ;)
It's a damn shame to see the end of StoryFix. Intelligent, funny and short, just like Natasha.
Can't you get a contribution from the 成人快手 Comedy budget? Certainly StoryFix delivered more laughs per minute than the rest of the TV comedy output.
stroy fix was super plz bring it back it was interesting to watch. shame on the bbvc management team to get rid of it
Great shame its finished - one of the best progs in recent memory. If it was all about viewing figures and especially downloading, then it should have been advertised - not even the News24 people said it could be downloaded. Why is it that whenever the 成人快手 produces something great, they then go and cancel it. I think the 成人快手, given that my license fee pays for it, should have a 'referendum' to keep it going or not
Bye Bye StoryFix. Gutted to see it go from the 成人快手 news web site.
I'm going to miss StoryFix! Especially James. Now I'll never know what's going on in the UK. It was a great combination of fun and news.
Storyfix was a delight: many a dull commute enlivened with Declan, James or Kate's cynical commentary on the week that was. Miss you already! (sob!)
